Tenacity pilot program for children with special needs at Dorchester Park

From: NorthStar <northstar.bpd@cityofboston.gov>Hello,I am writing you in regards to a program that Tenacity and the Boston Police Department are piloting for children with special needs.Tenacity is a summer fitness/reading program that operates through the city but in the past it has been challenging for children with special needs to take part in the program. The pilot program is going to be held at Dorchester Park tennis courts from July 23- to Aug 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30pm -3:30pm. The ages of children are from 6-12 but if there is a child that would benefit from this program that does not fall in the age group I'm sure we can try to make accommodations.Tenacity will operate the program as usual but there will be a limit to the number of children so they can provide a 3 to 1 ratio for instruction and necessary supervision. The BPD's role is to provide additional safety and supervision for the children that may have a tendency to wander or bolt due to their disability. It is strongly suggested that if your child does have a tendency to wander or bolt you do stay on the premise for the added supervision and safety. Please let me know if you would like to have your child participate in this great opportunity that tenacity if offering, and also if you know other families that may want to participate. On the first day there will be the standard waiver to sign, there is no equipment necessary, sunscreen, sneakers and hat would be necessary.Again please let me know as soon as possible if you would like your child to participate so we can have as many families as possible be apart of this program. Officer Michelle MaffeoNorth Star Personal Alert Program617 343 -6503northstar.bpd@cityofboston.govhttp://www.tenacity.org/
