Self-Advocacy Leadership Series with the Mass Developmental Disabilities Council

Summer Series 2: Application deadline: July 9, 2021

Free.The MDDC Online Self-Advocacy Leadership Series (SALS) offered by the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council (MDDC), is an interactive online 2 days a week/ 8 class training series that is taught by others with disabilities. * Designed for people with ID/DD between the ages 17 and up.* Students will learn skills that will focus on the fundamentals of leadership.* Students will develop skills that will assist them in pursuing individual goals towards integrated competitive employment and independence. 

Objective: Students will learn and practice skills in communication, listening, teamwork, self-awareness, problem solving, and negotiation as it focuses on the fundamentals of leadership. 

  • Class Topics to be covered:

• Class 1: Who I Am

Class 2: Communication

Class 3: Feelings & Values

Class 4: Self-Advocacy & I Want to Try

Class 5: Teamwork

Class 6: Disability Laws

Class 7: Public Speaking & Rehearsal

Class 8: Final Speech & Graduation 

DATES:Summer Series 2: Application deadline: July 9, 2021.

Option A: Monday and Wednesdays 10am – 11am July 19, 21, 26, 28, and August 2, 4, 9, 11

Option B: Tuesday and Thursdays 10am – 11am July 20, 22, 27, 29 and August 3, 5, 10
