Chapter 42: 10 Million Dollars for MA Transition Services

To address the needs of individuals with IEPs who reached or will reach age 22 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commonwealth has enacted Chapter 42 of the Acts of 2022 allocating $10 million for transition “services for individuals with disabilities that reached age 22 between March 10, 2020 and September 1, 2023 and were entitled to special education services up to age 22.“ There is a new state initiative to help support transition students due to COVID.  This program is only for students on IEPs who turned age 22 after March 10, 2020 and remained in school before exiting at age 22, or will exit school at age 22 before September 1,2023. These students may be eligible for extra transition services from designated state agencies. Participating state agencies: Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB), Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MAICEI), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC).
